Fun, Fun, Fun! And My Daddy Let Me Keep the T-Bird

Andre and I have been in Houston since Wednesday night. Well, Thursday morning if you want to get technical (we sat on the runway in Atlanta for several hours). And, of course, the airline (Delta, we’re talking about you!) lost his bag. Which, of course, meant he had an interview the next day, but was missing many essentials.

Now, I had planned to arrive in town, get to the hotel about midnight, take a sleeping pill and have 10-12 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Didn’t happen. After the late arrival, the luggage debacle, etc., we finally made it to the hotel about 2:00 a.m. I told Andre to get in bed and sleep, while I made a late-night trip to Wal-Mart to get him socks, underwear, and a belt, among other things. When I finally got back to the hotel it was 3:45 a.m. and I was dripping with sweat. I’d forgotten how truly humid it gets in Houston. So I took an icy cold shower. I was in bed and had taken my sleeping pill by 4:30 a.m. Then, naturally, I had trouble falling asleep!

Next day, I slept til about noon. Not the 10+ hours I was dreaming of, but… Then, I went to see Dr. Gigi to get my teeth filed down a litte bit. My bite was off. Then (aren’t you glad to have this chronicle?), we had to have dinner with the docs in the office. It was a lovely meal and I enjoyed the people I met very much. Extremely interesting conversations and the time flew by. I can really see myself being friends with these people.

We were finished about 10:15 p.m. Went home, read a bit. NO TV allowed. Andre went right to sleep. I’ve been reading Martin Brodeur’s autobiography. He wrote it during the 2005-2006 season, while he was an active player. He still is an active player, of course. It’s quite fascinating. I think I have a new favorite goalie. In addition to him just being a sassy badass goaltender, he named his daughter Annabelle too. That automatically means he’s awesome.

So Friday Gigi and I went to the spa. I had a massage for the first time ever. It was great. Great. GREAT. I hope to get to do that way more often. My shoulder has been so sore from toting Annabelle around. Then facials. Then manicures and pedicures. It was quite a relaxing, lovely day. We had real Tex-Mex. Not that faux Tex-Mex you get in other states. Then we just went back to their place and talked for a while. It’s good to have great friends. Or is it great to have good friends? Well, both. Of course.

Today we met with a realtor. Toured a number of houses. Some with awesome pools. A pool is an absolute must for us. And we found one house with the most gorgeous tropical-style pool. Just fantastic. Check out Gigi and Carlo’s photos (you can find them linked from our photo album under “contacts”) or check it out here!

After house hunting (and what seemed like a long, long time), we hung out for a while then had a bit of dinner at this fantastic little Italian place. Does anyone ever describe an Italian restaurant without saying it was a “little” Italian place? Just wondering. Anyway, it was delicious. Spicy red sauce with pasta and shrimp. Of course the company is quite delightful. We missed BigRay though. He was going to meet us in Houston, but I was just too tired to go all the way into town from The Woodlands. Sorry Ray! :-(

Now after a nice time with Carlos and Gigi, I am writing this post. Tomorrow we get to see Annabelle. She has been visiting her grandparents. My folks had her for two days and Andre’s have had her the last two nights. We’ve missed her so very much. I can’t wait to see her and hug her and hold her. I miss my little Annabelle.

Finally I was extremely excited to get an e-mail from my buddy Phil. He and his wife also recently had a baby — about three months before we had Annabelle. It’s been really fun to look at his pictures and see how their precious boy has been changing. It really is completely amazing.

OK. This has been a long, rambling post. Gigi, Carlo and Andre are watching Borat. I’ve seen it way too many times already, but I suppose I should join them now.
