Revision

We spent the weekend with our visitors and were very sorry to see them leave. It felt great to be around family — even if I am one of the old people now! Ha ha!

Dan and Cathy’s kids were so sweet and well behaved. As I watched them, I thought a lot about the times I spent on family trips to Canada and California. Our relatives lived so far away we’d be gone for weeks or even a month at a time. I remember one trip to my mom’s tiny island in Canada when I was about 17. I was bored and grumpy the entire time. That was the summer my boyfriend was moving to Paris. We were about to start senior year. I had a job and a life at home. I hated being up there. Kelly and I retreated to the attic of my Auntie Myrt’s house and listened to Metallica for hours on end and played Uno. We were so bored we even, for some reason, stripped out of our clothes and rolled around in this soft, pink, cottony-type stuff that was all around the attic. (Turns out it was fiberglass insulation.) What were we thinking?!

Oh yeah! I was 17. I was bored. I can’t begin to express how painfully itchy Kelly and I were after the incident with the fiberglass. It sure seemed like a good idea at the time.

Anyway, I kept wondering if Dan and Cathy’s kids felt the same way about being at our house: Bored and wishing the time away. I hope not. But, if they did, I can chalk it up to just being a kid.
