Oh Boy! (I Mean GIRL!)

Article posted on Wednesday, March, 7th, 2007 at 4:44 am

The true countdown has begun. Just 12 hours from now I will be in prep for surgery. I am trying to stay calm and not freak out. It’s hard.

I spent this day tying up loose ends. Running errands. Purchasing gifts for the grandmas-to-be and visiting Andre in clinic. My OB-GYN asked him to take my blood pressure today and call him.

At the OB appointment on Tuesday they found some protein in my urine (sorry if that is TMI) and that, coupled with some sudden, severe swelling in my hands and ankles had them worried. So they did a bunch of blood work. I won’t bore you with the results, but there were a few issues. I am still anemic and there were some other things they noticed. So I am glad I am having the baby tomorrow before things get really uncomfortable (read: UTI).

So tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. ET (12:15 CT!), I will be in surgery and shortly afterward, Baby Boyd will make her debut. I am taking my iPod with me. Andre will be there too and my I-am-a-huge-baby-so-I-need-a-teddy-bear Bear. I can probably pass it off as a gift for Baby Boyd. Ha ha!

All the grandparents are in town now. Mimi and Papa rolled in during the third period of the Thrashers’ game (they won 4-2 — yay!). They were bearing many more gifts for Baby Boyd. They’ve been so very good to us. Andre and I definitely don’t deserve it, but Baby Boyd does. She’s the little precious. We feel very blessed and lucky to have their support and assistance.

My parents have been amazing too. Without them, our move would have been absolutely hellacious. They helped us move, cleaned the old place — and the new! — assembled baby furniture, washed baby clothes (not to mention mine and Andre’s), made dinner, bought groceries. Seriously, they have been lifesavers. This past month I haven’t been able to do too much. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without them here to help me.

So a huge thank you to Mimi and Papa; and Nana and Poppy. I hope Andre and I will be as supportive, loving and giving as you have been to us.

Also, a big thank you to our friends who have called to wish us well. Even though I haven’t had a chance to return all of your calls, I really appreciate it (we both do).

I guess that’s it for now. I’d like to request a little prayer for me and Baby Boyd — that we’ll both come through surgery A-OK. Happy and healthy. Think of our little family around 1:15 p.m. ET tomorrow. Andre or I will be in touch with you very soon.

(And be sure to check our photo albums. We’ll be posting Baby Boyd pix just as soon as we can.)

Much love,

Kaatiya
